Tree 1 – Generation 3 – i Dougald Campbell

We shall start with the children of Margaret and Alexander Campbell. Margaret was also known as Peggy or Maggie in the census records. It is believed that they married
about 1828 based on the christening record of their eldest known child Dougald in 1829.

i Dougald Campbell (Margaret2, John1) the first child of Alexander Campbell and Margaret McCuaig was christened 4 Feb 1829. The family was living at the farm of Giol in the Parish of Kildalton, Argyll, Scotland.

The surname McCuaig has been misinterpreted as McCuay on some records such as the IGI and OPR but in the original register it is definitely McCuaig. In this record the mother’s name has also been misinterpreted as Mary but again a check of the original records shows the mother’s name as Marg’t.

There is no additional record of this child. It is possible that he died as a young child. If he did die young it was most likely before 1839. Although there is no proof that he did die, we do know that he did not appear on the1841 census with the family and there was a second child named Dugald born in 1839.
