Beyond his christening record we have not found any record of Hugh in Scotland.  He does not appear on the 1841 census in Scotland.  The first available census in Canada is the 1851 census but he died in 1849 previous to that census.

Hugh appears to have travelled to Canada with or perhaps following his brothers.  No record of a marriage has been found.

We were made aware of his existence in Canada when we found his gravestone.

He was buried at St Andrews Presbyterian Cemetery which is located at Concession 6 Lot 10, Strange, King Township, York County, Ontario, Canada.  The tombstone is broken but is described as follows:
Row 2 Stone 16 (broken, in the ground, finger pointing upwards, sun rays)
MCLEOD
In memory of / Hugh McLeod / died Jan 21, 1849 / Aged 22 years / also / Peter McLeod (broken stone)
