Tree 1 – Generation 3 – iv Ann Campbell

iv – Ann Campbell (Margaraet2 John1) fourth child of Alexander Campbell and Margaret McCuaig. was born about 1836 or 1837 most likely on the farm of Giol, in the parish of Oa on the island of Islay, Argyll, Scotland. This birth year is calculated based on the age of 4 years as given on the 1841 census (=1837) and. the age 23 years as given on the marriage registration in January 1859 (=1836).  Most census records tend to indicate 1836/1837. Her death registration in March of 1888 gives an age of 52 years which indicates a birth year of 1836.

Ann married Neil McMillan 20 Jan 1859 in the Parish of Kildalton, on the island of Islay, Argyll, Scotland

Neil is the son of Archibald McMillan and Catherine McEwen.  He appears to have been born about 1832 or 1833,  This is based upon age 9 on the 1841 census which indicates a birth year of about 1832. He was 25 years of age when married in Jan of 1859 which indicates a birth year of 1834. Most census records show him likely being born in 1834 or 1832.

Neil and Ann had nine children that I am aware of. Archibald, Alexander, unnamed son, Duncan, Catherine, Janet, Anne, another Anne and Hugh.

Ann died 5 March 1888 on the Farm of Killeyan in the Parish of Oa, Argyll, Scotland

On the 1841 census Ann is living with her family on the Farm of Giol and is four years of age.

On the 1851 census Ann is 14 years old and is visiting her Great-grandmother Catherine (Sellers) Campbell who is Alexander Campbell’s mother.  Her Great-grandmother is also living on the Farm of Giol  just two doors away.

The 1861 census finds Ann a young married mother, age 25 years, living on the Farm of Giol with her husband Neil and son Archibald who is one year old.  On 13 April 1864  Ann and Neil had a son (not named) born on the farm of Lower Killeyan who died the same day as his birth.

On the 1871 census children Alexander, Duncan and Catherine have joined the McMillan family who are now living in Lower Killeyan.

We find them on the 1881 census living in Lower Killeyan with Janet, Ann and Hugh joining the family.  On 12 February 1876 another daughter Anne was born  on the Farm of Killeyan but she died when nine months old on 23 November 1876, also on the Farm of Killeyan.

The 1891 census finds Neil, age 56,  a widower who is living on the Farm of KIleyan with daughter Ann and son Hugh.
